What to Expect (and Common Questions)
A Brief Overview
Every show we do is different, written specifically for each performance and venue. But, there are a few
things that are common to them all.
They are all interactive, murder-mystery comedies written with a certain amount of parody directed at the genre.
A team of actors portray the characters that drive the story and entertain. There is a murder and the audience may choose to help solve the crime. There will be fun prizes awarded for correct answers in various categories. The more you invest in looking for clues, the more fun it becomes. The correct solution is never easy. And, even if you choose to just sit back and observe, it is a very enjoyable evening.
What does Immersive / Interactive mean?
Our performance is immersive, which means the show is happening all around you (the audience). You are there in real- time and place while the story unfolds and therefore you are part of that story. You are a first-hand witness to the action and possibly a murder. How much you involve yourself is up to you. You can be immersed in the story but still remain simply an observer. Some will choose another path and take action. This is where interactive comes in. For example, if you witness something that might be a clue as to who committed a crime, you may want to report what you have seen to the detective. If your information is important, you may be asked to testify. You would now be an interactive part of the story. We leave this choice up to you. (see next)

Participation
You choose your own level of participation. When you arrive, you are given a colored name tag for your name, stage name, or alias. You choose the color, Blue if you wish to mainly be a spectator, Red if you would like more interaction. The actors will approach red tag audience members on occasion for conversation and even may ask you to join in a task. We can not guarantee participation but we do pretty well with getting around to everyone throughout the course of the evening.

How Does the Solving the Crime Part Work?
We do things a bit differently here, but we think that having the audience solving the crime throughout the evening adds layers of fun to the event. Because we write an original, one-of-a-kind script for each and every performance, this also means the murder-solving changes a bit each time. But, we always leave clues, and put evidence out there for you to find and figure out who is the killer and what was their motive. We also give a good amount of red-herrings and misdirection to make it pretty challenging. That also makes for a better game, and a more fun story-line to follow. So, enjoy the show but keep your eyes and ears open for clues as the events unfold. Toward the end of the evening, you will be given the chance to vote for who you think is guilty, and their motive. There are a few small prizes given for successful detective work and the overall winner{s} will get t-shirts and tickets to the next show.
Attire
Since you are part of the show, we highly encourage you to dress for the occasion. It is NOT required in any way. But, we are all there to have the most fun possible. So, please feel free to take your attire/costume as far as you want to go. Specific attire is sometimes more fitting (ha ha, fitting, get it?:) than others, depending on the theme of the individual show. But, creative audience costumery is always very welcome.

Is There an Age Restriction?
We do not enforce any age restrictions, however, if you are a parent looking for guideline, see next item.

What type of Material and Language Can I Expect?
Because the audience, on occasion, is allowed to speak, we can not absolutely guarantee what will be said. The show is intended for an adult audience, but young adults seem to enjoy it very much. There will be a murder for sure, which is sometimes disturbing for some folks, but we can't really go without one for obvious reasons. As far as language goes, we feel we generally run at around a PG-13 level. But, there are always a few adult words in the show.

Tickets
Ticket pricing varies greatly per show, however, tickets purchased online, in advance, will always be the lowest cost and will increase as the show date gets closer. Some venues also have assigned seating so your seating options will also be better early. We recommend getting your tickets as early as possible. There are discounts for seniors age 62 and up and students with I.D.

Members
One of the benefits of being a Member of Monster Box Theatre is getting 10% off all performance tickets.
(up to 2 tickets/show/membership) This discount is automatic when tickets are purchased on the MBT website.
On occasion, tickets must be purchased directly from the venue website. (The Michigan Theatre for example)
In these cases the member should contact us and we will find a workaround.

Specifics about the upcoming Show - Sat. Sept. 6th
"Murder in the Michigan Theatre"

The Story
Sorry, but we can't say too much about that. That would take away all the fun.
But, the very little that we can say is this.

Time and Place
We like to adapt our story to the location, venue and circumstance. So, you can expect tp enjoy an evening out, attending a show at the theater. The play you will be attending is called 'Murder in the Michigan Theatre'. The story takes place approximately 80 years ago during the early years of the Michigan Theatre of Jackson. The setting for the play is a hotel across the street from the Theater and later inside the Theater itself.

Attire
If you wish to dress for the time period, you certainly may. And, we think that is great. But, it is in no way required and will not affect your experience at all other than it's fun to dress up.

Interaction/participation
There will be a murder, and you will be asked to help solve the crime, but interaction is completely optional. Your crime-solving abilities are demonstrated through voting by secret ballot on which you will give your theory as to the murderer and motive. You come to this conclusion from your observations and evidence you have gathered throughout the evening. You will have the opportunity to talk to suspects and compare notes with fellow detectives if you wish. Correct solutions will be rewarded, and ties will be broken, if necessary, by the most accurately described motive.

Don't be afraid
No, you will NOT be "dragged" up on stage, and your level of interaction is completely up to you. We want everyone to have the most enjoyable time possible at their own pace and comfort level.

What if I want to participate?
However, those who WANT to have a higher level of interaction will choose a RED nametag for themselves upon
check-in. And, will be more likely to be approached by actors for conversation or help with a task.
